Hi Darcy,lol...no the fish are ok as they go to the bottom which is below ground level,its just they produce nitrates as a by-product which strips out the oxygen in the water under ice and would harm them...hence the floating balls...which doesn't impress the dogs I nicked them from :)

What happens if it freezes solid? Do the fish freeze too? I hope that doesn't sound too stupid, but it just crossed my mind.
